Happy 29!

Brian's birthday was yesterday and it snowed in his honor :) It ended up being nice because he left work early and had the evening free. I made cinnamon rolls (Brian's mom's recipe) and took them to him at work. We're going to be going out to dinner tonight too.

Opening the tackle box and playing with Matthew at the same time :)

So happy with his new t-shirt! Thank you Tiff and Chris!

Helping daddy open his new fly fishing book.

Brian's not a big cake fan so we had ice cream instead.

I love you babe! I'm so excited we get to spend so many more birthdays together!

Biking for Burgers

Sorry, no pictures in this one :(, but I don't think anyone would be interested in seeing me in my biking/running pants! Anyway, on Saturday we went for a family bike ride to our favorite burger joint, Old School Burger. Brian plotted a nice route for us and also pulled Matthew. This was my longest ride to date-20 miles round trip. I was totally surprised at how well I did! I was a little saddle sore the next day, but that was the only pain I had. I guess next time I need to offer to pull Matthew for a little ways!

While I was riding I was thinking about how the same route or path can appear so different depending on your mode of transportation. In life when we go through experiences, we will respond based on where we're been and how we got there. I'm always intrigued by what it is that makes some people rise to the occasion and yet the same event can make some one be so bitter or angry. I don't think there's any one predictor, but I'd like to the kind of person who is not controlled by circumstances.

Little Monkey Bizness

We had a little play date with our neighbors at Little Monkey Bizness. This was our first visit. I think this would be a good place to go in winter, but with so many parks around we'll go there most of the time. They also had a craft room, but I couldn't tear Matthew away from the toys.

Look, I can be crafty!

I used to be fairly crafty when I was in my youth, but not so any more. I think since I spend my days with a toddler I have adapted the attention span of a two year old. Anyway, my good friend Ginnie (friends since third grade, met my husband at her wedding) is having her first baby any day now and I wanted to do something special. Allie helped get me started and I think it turned out pretty cute!

Littleton Historic Museum

Brian got to go skiing today so I decided to go exploring with Matthew. We went to the Littleton Historic Museum. It has a farm behind the museum so we didn't spend much time inside. Sometime in my life I would like to be able to go through a museum the way it should be gone through, slowly. Anyway, the weather was really nice and Matthew of course loved it. After we were done we had a picnic lunch at the park next door. I'm sure we'll be going there again.

1890s farmhouse replica.

Peacock out one of the barn windows.

One of the lookouts to the lake.

Walking on the bridge to see the lake.

In the schoolhouse. There was also a blacksmith talking to the kids about what a blacksmith does, but I didn't get a picture of it.

On a wagon.

I find it interesting that now we go to museums to see what life was like not that long ago. Brian's grandfather was a farmer so Brian's dad grew up working the farm. Now we go on Saturday outings to learn about them.

The things kids say

Matthew has been saying some of the funniest things lately and I need to write them down before I forget them.

On the way to church the past few weeks-"It's not Christmas any more."

M: My back hurts.
K: Uh oh, why does it hurt?
M: It's hungry.

K: I think these ones are smaller than the other ones.
M: It is indeed.

K: Do you want to be late to story time?
M: Yes.

After a 30 minute cry-fest-"I done crying Mommy."

Looking in a pot on the table-"My head is big."

He's such a crazy kid. I'm surprised at how many words he knows. I love my little man!

More zoo

We took another trip to the zoo with the Ocassios and Paulsons. It started out a little windy, but warmed up a lot by the time we left.

Matthew riding the ox.

Ryley and Matthew in the wagon.

On the train (I'm not so good at self-portraits, maybe next time I can get my head in).

Eating lunch-Matthew, Alecia, Ryley, Quinn and Maya.
We need to spend some time with people who have boys. Look at all that pink! :) (Just kidding, we love girls too.)

Playing the drums.

Silly Uncle Brent

We called to talk to the family yesterday and Matthew was being so funny with Brent. He's such a silly boy!

Chuck E. Cheese

We went to a birthday party on Saturday for our neighbor Isaac. He turned 2. This was Matthew's first time and Brian has been wanting to go for a while (he loves it there). Matthew's favorite was the sky tubes. Brian was an awesome daddy and played up there with him for about two hours. There was also a "Scoop" from Bob the Builder that Matthew enjoyed.

He did manage to take a few minutes to play a racing game :)
